At Mount Sinai School of Medicine here in New York we have historically autoclaved hundreds of water bottles in a small cage-wash area and found the process to be extremely labor intensive. Since we were autoclaving the bottle with the water inside, the handling of the hot bottles was a concern and the labor, again, was very difficult with our ever-increasing rodent population. We installed the Edstrom Industries Ultrafilter before the bottle filling station and found we no longer needed to autoclave the water in the bottles. This is saving time, energy and the possibility of injury from handling superheated bottles.
The Ultrafilter is working great! The investigators have agreed to stop using autoclaved water and it has increased the cage wash efficiency greatly."
