Defining the Scope of the Project with Edstrom

To start defining the scope of the project, we've listed a few questions in the areas our products would impact including: automated watering, water treatment/purification, and vivarium management.

General Overview
  • What Species will be in the Vivarium?
  • Approximately how many animals by species?
  • What Bio-safety level(s) does the vivarium contain?
  • Will the room layout be in suite formation, cross-corridors or a combination?
  • Will you require specification and/or a design layout?

Automated Watering for Animal Drinking Water
  • Are preliminary floor layouts available?
  • Type of caging system being considered? (We work with all caging manufacturers.)
  • Does the automated watering system require a flushing system or recirculating system?
  • What kind of water source is being considered: Reverse osmosis, city water, well water, or filtered and treated water?

Water Treatment/Purification for Animal Drinking Water
  • What are the water treatment requirements of the client?
    • Purification
      • Reverse Osmosis
      • UV Sterilization
    • Treated Water
      • Chlorination
      • Acidification

Vivarium Management
  • Does the system require monitoring and control of lighting, access and watering?
  • What Building Management System has been chosen? Siemens, JCI, Honeywell?
  • Is Single level light control (off/on lighting) or Dual level lighting (off/on/task lighting) control required?
  • Is Access control required for interior doors within the vivarium and/or perimeter doors into the vivarium
  • What kind of access control: PIN entry or card?
  • Type of door lock hardware needed: magnetic or electric strike?
  • What environmental conditions does the client need to monitor: temperature, humidity, differential pressure, supply airflow, ancillary equipment monitoring of refrigerators, freezers or cage wash?
  • How many rooms need to be monitored?
  • Does the equipment need to be recessed into the wall?
  • What is the wall material and thickness? (A minimum 8” wall thickness is required to recess mount equipment)
  • Ceiling height?
  • Is the ceiling a drop ceiling or a hard ceiling?
  • Are there chase ways between multiple floors?
  • Is there an interstitial area between floors?
  • Is conduit required for cabling?
  • Is there an existing Ethernet backbone in the vivarium to which an Edstrom system can be attached?
